Morning Star Children's Village is located in an area called Sammuna Ber on the outskirts of the ancient city of Gondar in Northern Ethiopia. Gondar is 784 km distance from the capital city, Addis Ababa. The Village lies on almost 20 hectares (approximately 50 acres) of land and is located three kilometers away from the main asphalted road to the city of Gondar. The city of Gondar lies immediately north of the Village, thus the community tends to be urban although south and east of the village, it becomes more rural. A river borders the western end of the Village. The topography of the general area is high plateaus. The altitude at Sammuna Ber ranges from 1800 to 2000 meters above the sea level. The average rainfall is said to be 1772 mm. The soil is red brown, and conducive for farming. There is an African saying that it takes a village to raise a child. We want the children of Morning Star Village to be well integrated into the local community and we strive to impart to the children the value of giving back to ones' own community. |
